ReCover and Econoler Partner to Expand MBENEFITS Delivery in Atlantic Canada

Halifax, NS — April 23, 2026 — The ReCover Initiative (ReCover) today announced a strategic partnership with Econoler, a global leader in energy efficiency consulting and the exclusive provider of the MBENEFITS Non-Energy Benefit modelling methodology in Canada. Through this agreement, Econoler has granted ReCover an exclusive license to deliver MBENEFITS analysis to building owners across Atlantic Canada.

Building retrofit investment decisions have traditionally been driven by energy savings and related cost reduction. However, when Non-Energy Benefits (NEBs) like improved safety, productivity and reduced downtime are quantified and considered, returns are realized significantly faster. The MBENEFITS approach is a proven methodology for modelling NEBs which can quantify up to 54 unique operational and occupant benefits.

Deep retrofits often stall not because they lack impact, but because the full value isn’t captured in the business case. By quantifying non-energy benefits, MBENEFITS helps reveal the true economics of these projects — making it easier for owners to justify and move forward with investment.

— Brittany Davison, Interim Executive Director of the ReCover Initiative

The MBENEFITS methodology is the result of over 15 years of research and development and has been validated by more than 20 companies globally across the commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors. Case studies demonstrate that when NEBs are included in evaluations, projects demonstrate significantly higher internal rates of return and pay back periods are on average, three times shorter.

We are thrilled to partner with ReCover to bring this unique methodology to Atlantic Canada. By identifying, quantifying and monetizing all of the benefits generated by deep retrofit projects, they become more attractive from a financial and strategic standpoint.

— Geneviève Gauthier, National Director at Econoler

ReCover plans to offer MBENEFITS NEB modelling as a stand-alone service and as a standard component of the comprehensive business cases delivered through its Building Transformation Program.
